Village Final Resting Place

Karangan Hamlet, Latimojong Village, District Baraka, Enrekang regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Karangan hamlet located at altitude of 1,390 mdpl. This village is in Back of Latimojong Mountains, , the highest mountain in South Sulawesi with an altitude of 3,478 mdpl.

This hamlet is home to about 50 families, in general, the pattern of settlements fused, although there are some houses that are far apart from the center of the settlement. Like a forest village community, Karangan society is still very dependent on forest products (Natural Resources) around the Latimojong Mountains. To prop up the economy like coffee or for materials the manufacture of their homes still utilize forest products such as rattan or big and strong wood. One of the utilization of forest products are woods of forest products for home building materials.

To build homes, Karangan society have its own wisdom. Before taking the woods in the forest to build a house, that person will hold the Sukku event as a series of activities. Sukku event is intended as a sign and thanksgiving to the Almighty as the owner and creator of entire contents universe, and provide food for all people who helped. Every society that old and young, men and women, join in helping. Men who would pull wood from the forest and the women provide the food.

Karangan Hamlet became the final resting place for tourists who want to climb the highest mountain in Sulawesi, with friendly people, making us feel at home in this village.
