The largest Producer of Freshwater Fish

Tempe Lake is a lake that located in the west of Reg. Wajo, South Sulawesi. Exactly in Sub. Tempe, it's about 7 miles from Sengkang City. Tempe Lake has an area about 13.000 hectares. Besides this lake is one of the tectonic lakes in Indonesia, another feature of this lake is the largest producer of freshwater fish in the world, because the bottom of the lake holds many sources of food fish. Lake Tempe has a freshwater fish species that are rarely found in other areas, because the lake is situated above the continental plates asia and australia.

Every 23th of August, Sea Festival held at Tempe Lake. This fishing ritual party is called "Maccera Tappareng" or a ceremony to purify the lake that characterized by cattle slaughtering led by a chief fisherman who followed a variety of very interesting tourist attraction. On the day of the celebration of this Tempe Lake Festival, all participants of the Maccera Tappareng ceremony used "Baju Bodo" (Bugis tradisional clothes). This event also celebrated with traditional activities such as boat races, boat decorative, folk games contest (traditional kite competition), beating dimples competition, performances of traditional music and Bissu dance played by transvestites, and various other traditional performances.
